About the Foundation

The Kitimat Community Foundation serves and enhances our community by connecting donors with local needs and opportunities. We help charitable giving support the organizations, programs, and initiatives that contribute to the well-being of Kitimat and Kitamaat Village.

As a community foundation, we bring together people who want to make a difference with opportunities to support important charitable work, both today and into the future.

Our Background

The Kitimat Community Foundation was officially formed on January 19, 2011, building on the charitable work and community support established through the Annual Community Telethon.

The telethon, originally known as the Aluminum City Telethon, has been a longstanding tradition of fundraising and community participation. Its transition to a community foundation created opportunities to expand charitable giving, establish funds, and support both immediate community needs and longer-term goals.

Today, the Foundation continues to support local organizations while providing opportunities for donors and community groups to contribute to Kitimat's future.

Our Approach

We believe charitable giving is most effective when it responds to the needs and strengths of the community.

The Foundation works with donors to help identify their charitable interests and connect them with opportunities to make a meaningful contribution. By bringing together donations and community knowledge, we can help support a broad range of local needs.

Our grantmaking interests include health, education, arts and culture, sports and recreation, the environment, and social services.

We also take a long-term view, recognizing that a strong community benefits from both immediate support and thoughtful planning for the future.

Community Giving Through KCF

Community generosity takes many forms, and the Foundation helps support charitable initiatives with their own histories, purposes, and supporters.

The Annual Community Telethon remains an important source of fundraising for KCF, bringing volunteers, performers, donors, and local organizations together each October.

The Kitimat Firefighters Ladder of Hope Charitable Fund is another example. Established by the Kitimat Firefighters Charitable Association and administered by KCF, the fund supports eligible local charitable and youth organizations.

As additional charitable funds and initiatives develop, the Foundation can provide opportunities for community giving to grow.

Governance & Accountability

The Kitimat Community Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors responsible for overseeing the Foundation's activities and charitable responsibilities.

Membership is open to individuals and organizations interested in supporting the Foundation.

Membership fees help cover administrative costs, while the Foundation's Annual General Meeting provides an opportunity for members to participate in its governance.
